Important Changes in Leadership for the National Association of Women Judges and Magistrates of Botswana
May 16th, 2017
The National Association of Women Judges and Magistrates of Botswana (NAWABO) met on January 21st, 2017 for its Annual General Meeting. The meeting presented the opportunity to implement for important changes in the leadership and the re-branding of NAWABO. These changes reflect a transformation for the Association and a meaningful opportunity to build off the years of incredible work and the impacts achieved. One of the key outcomes was the rebranding of the title of the Association from NAWABO to the Botswana Chapter of International Association of Women Judges.

Elections for new officers were also held during the Annual General Meeting and marked significant shift in leadership for the Association. Many of the outgoing officers had been at the helm of steering the Association for a good number of years and were instrumental in building it up and creating greater local, regional and international visibility for women judges and magistrates. The newly elected officers are Chairperson H. Nuru, Vice-chairperson Phandliwe Thaka, Secretary Nthabiseng Merafe-Tladi, Vice-secretary Sampa Boitumelo Kaisara, Treasurer Batho Kgerethwa, and two additional members, Basetsana Keakantse and Motlhalefi Baipaakanyi. In addition, there is a training committee comprised of two members, Judge Annah Mathiba and Deputy Registrar Segomotso Mothotho-Mbole responsible for coordinating the trainings, activities and events of the Association.

As the Association embraces this transition, the new officers hope to carry on the legacy of activities and relationships established with other stakeholders and counterparts both locally and internationally.
