On Justice Claire L'Heurex Dube's 85th birthday, over 400 gathered at the University of Ottawa's Gowlings Moot Court Room to honor her many accomplishments and learn about her background and experiences.

The Zambia Women Judges Association (ZAWJ) hosted a two-day symposium from November 22nd to November 23rd 2012 in Lusaka, Zambia under the theme "Gender Justice" The symposium, which was sponsored by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Zambian Judiciary, hosted 150 participants drawn from various organizations.
IAWJ member Shireen Fisher, who is President of the Special Court of Sierra Leone, is part of a strong movement towards justice in Sierra Leone for those harmed in conflict. The Special Court of Sierra Leone, a tribunal established by the UN and the government of Sierra Leone, hears cases on sexual and gender-based crimes that occurred during times of conflict, bringing to light those who breached international humanitarian law in Sierra Leone after 30 November 2006.

Zambia Women Judges Association Hosted a Symposium on "Gender Justice"

Judge Betty Fletcher, who was a pioneer for women, especially women judges, passed away on the evening of Monday, October 22nd, in Seattle with family members at her bedside. She was 89.
A memorial will be held November 10th at noon in Benaroya Hall, 200 University Street, Seattle.

IAWJ Member, Liisa Kiianlinna, Wins Gusi Peace Prize 2012

IAWJ member, Liisa Kiianlinna, was awarded the Gusi Peace Prize on November 28, 2012. The Gusi Peace Prize is Asia's foremost awarding body; it recognizes individuals and groups worldwide that work towards attaining peace and respect for human life. She was one of 20 laureates awarded last year. She was recognized for her contributions to social justice & humanitarian law.
