IAWJ Biennial Conference
The IAWJ’s Biennial International Conferences are the organization’s flagship events. The first Biennial Conference was held in San Diego, USA, in 1992, with 80 women judges representing 42 countries. Since then, the IAWJ has partnered with affiliated associations to host conferences in countries across the globe. The esprit de corps that pervaded that historic meeting laid the foundation for a union of women judges who discovered how much they had in common, despite their different cultures, languages, and judicial systems.
The conferences remain the cornerstone of IAWJ networking activities for many members. Each one reflects the unique culture and organizational style of the host association. While every conference is distinct, they all provide opportunities to rekindle old friendships and forge new ones—all within the context of substantive discussions on topics that women judges face daily.
The 16th IAWJ Conference, held in Marrakesh, Morocco, in 2023, attracted over 1,100 participants from 70 countries. It was the first Biennial Conference since the COVID-19 pandemic and demonstrated the enduring passion of IAWJ members for their global sisterhood. Watch the daily highlights below.
The 17th IAWJ Conference will take place from April 9–12, 2025, in Cape Town, South Africa. Visit the conference website for more information.
